Antwerp - The port city

Antwerp is a nearby Belgian port city which Leo frequented for shopping since the prices were cheaper there. Netherlands had better infrastructure than Belgium and this was noticeable even in the quality of roads. The moment you entered the Belgian side the noise from the tyres announced the territory.

I visited the city many times during my stay. I was surprised to see that there was no physical boundary between the two countries. I already knew this in India but I was expecting at least a small checkpost, barrier or blockade but there was just a blue line on the road demarcating the countries.

On one of our trips to Antwerp we had a light meal at a road side restaurant and I insisted to pay the bill. That was a brave decision on my part because it cost me around € 200 (INR 10,000 approx.). All we had was omelettes and noodles, not to mention this was the place they considered to be cheap. That was my first and the last act of chivalry.

Leo's mother also accompanied us on that trip. She was an 82 year old lady who could still play football with the kids. The only issue she had was slight problem in hearing. She lived in an old age home and was quite happy to be there.

On my last visit to Antwerp I bought lots of Belgian chocolate and few warm jackets. These were certainly worth more than their price.
