Tipu Sultan is known as the Tiger of Mysore. He ruled Mysore and the surrounding areas in the 18th century. His opposition to the ruling British made him famous all over India. He is a controversial figure in Indian history. Earlier he was portrayed as national hero but historical evidence has been presented citing the atrocities he committed against the hindu population, particularly in state of Kerala.

Srirangapatna is 14 km outside of Mysore. It is a small island formed by the river Cauvery. During his reign, Tipu Sultan chose Srirangapatna as the capital.
