Kodagu (Coorg) is a district in the state of Karnataka, India and Madikeri (Mercara), is its head quarter. Their anglicized names are in brackets. The British changed the names, as it was too difficult for them to pronounce. Wow!!! Life was simple back then.
Madikeri Town, Coorg
All four names are still in common usage, so to make things less confusing I will use Coorg and Madikeri, the names which I find easy to pronounce.
Coorg is called the Scotland of India because of its scenic views and mist. Coffee, honey and spices are some of its specialties.
Madikeri is one of the most popular hill stations in Karnataka. It is a small town with a population of around 28,000. Located 300 km from state capital Bengaluru, it makes a perfect weekend getaway. People usually visit to relax in the lap of nature.
The road from Bengaluru to Madikeri is in very good condition and the distance can be covered in 6-7 hrs.
